I tried replacing the approx 28" hose from the plastic holding tank to the macerator pump this weekend and ran into a couple of problems. First is the new hose, the new Shields 1 1/2 guaranteed for life hose, would not make the turn without kinking. Actually several kinks. I don't know how Hunter got the original MPI hose in without cracking but they did. Is there a problem if I live with the kinking? How do you avoid kinking?
Second problem is I noticed a hairline crack on the PVC elbow coming out of the tank and I don't know if I caused it trying to force on the new hose or if it was there previously. It never leaked before and the tank is still empty so I don't know if it leaks now. The crack looked dirty so maybe it was always there. In any case my question is, if the fitting now leaks is there an easy fix for the crack, say some kind of glue?

Yes kinked hose will cause problems and the tank fitting will leak

The PVC tank fitting is threaded into the tank....replace it. Tank fittings are readily available from any boat store...you'll need 1.5".

Inline radius fittings are the only solution to bends that are tighter than the hose can bend without kinking. They're a bit harder to find...you'll prob'ly have to order 'em. These folks have 'em: SeaLand Hose _ Fittings

http://www.sealandservices.com/hose_fittings.htm Replacing a straight tank fitting with a 90 (or vice versa, depending on which you have) may eliminate one of the tight bends.

Warm the hose and use dishwashing liquid as a lubricant to get it onto the fittings...do NOT use ANY sealant...double clamp all connections, putting screws on opposite sides of the hose.
