Cracked hatch,not original, on 1978 H25..strength?

Silly question?...I recently bought (first sailboat) a H25 and hatch is cracked. Even without the crack I would be hesitant to walk on it. I can't imagine that any deck hatch is not designed to withstand significant weight. Tell me it is so...That ,in general, hatches are intended/designed to be walked/trampled on during the possible chaos that could occur with inexperienced crew on deck. For their cost, I sure hope soThanksBill

Hey Bill, like you I'm fairly new to boat ownership and I too had questions as to whether the hatchcover would support me. At first I stepped over or went around it. Then I began walking just on the edges. I finally came to the conclusion it's ok to walk on any surface that has awl grip. My hatchcover has it and it supports me just fine.
