Cracked fiberglass around outboard

I removed my outboard and was surprised to see a chuck of the boat come off with it. I'm not sure what the piece is called, so I attached a couple pictures.

I've never done any repair on something like this but I'm assuming I can use some kind of epoxy or something and get it glued back together and sand it smooth.

Any suggestions on what to do about this?

It happened the same to me when my 9.9 hp evinrude got loose and went down to the sea.

I just cutted the lower lip to be simetrical, cleaned all the área and sealed with silicone sealant and installed the new engine.

One thing I noticed is that the fiberglas lip had more resin tan fiberglas and its quite fragile, I guess its mayor function was to seal the hull and for better looks.

I am planing to use a fiberglass paste composed of resin and fibers and once its set you just have to sand aand paint.

Or, clean it up with acetone/mek and mix some thickened epoxy or polyester resin apply, sand / paint


as long as it doesn't leak ,its only cosmetic

I don't have a picture but mine broke too. I cut the middle out(just leaving the ends) and replace that with a piece of angle aluminum. I used 5200 to attach it. Worked well.

That looks like just the trim piece for the cutout. If MacG doesn't sell a replacement that can be re-riveted back on, any of the aforementioned repairs will work.
You're not in any jam. Simple fix.

I hate to admit it, but if I was in a pinch, I would put a decent sealer in the crack, (one that could be conceivably dug back out for the permanent repair in the winter), and sail it. Cosmetics..

At some point I would permanently repair that in a way that it would never break down again. That horizontal does carry the weight of the engine.
