CQR Anchors

I have been looking at CQR anchors and have been daunted by the price Lewmar wants for them.

North Star Marine in Blaine, Washington (www.northstaranchors.com) is offering CQR anchors (apparently Chinese fabricated) for about a fifth of the price of the Lewmar anchors.

Does anyone have experience with them and can comment on the quality of their products?

Hi, I have a 35 lb on my Fuji Ketch. I have had it for a year. It has held fine and shows no signs of rust. I bought it for the same reason that you are looking at it. It seems to be a great deal to me. Harold

Why not get a Delta 10 KG. They cost about £100 and under RNLI Tests have shown to be an improvement on the CQR and are easier to stow on the bow of a Vega.

We use a genuine CQR and love it, I don't know what prices you're being quoted in the US but here in the eastern Mediterannean the going rate for a genuine CQR (secondhand - there's invariably a few of them to be had, as peolpe upgrade to something more modern/high-tech/heavily advertised) is around 60-80 euros, whereas you can get yourself a chinese/german/greek/turkish made CQR copy for free! Just in the marina where we're moored for the winter, I can think of five (some 25lb & some 35lb) which are sat on foredecks/pontoons and which the owners will happily give away for free, the fact that there's no takers pretty much sums up the Med Cruising Community's opinion of CQR copies.
