I saw this interesting article on the South Carolina Port Authority news page...


I guess all of the on-line shopping has really put a boom on retail shipping from overseas. We have seen so many stories this year of containers being lost at sea, I guess this is a major contributing factor.

I drive over this bridge everyday and see these amazing ships going in and out. It is very impressive.

When did they put a container port on the north side of the bridge? Did they do a lot of dredging?

I don't know when the Welch Terminal Opened but the cranes have been running since I got here in August. They just completed another large set up but the paint ain't dry yet on the second terminal...

Schooner Pride was tied up between the old container dock and the aquarium. It was really something to watch the pilot turn those 900+ foot container ships between the aquarium and Patriot's Point. Sometimes it seemed the aquarium was a goner, but they always pulled it off.

Capta, May 1982 is when the Wando Container Terminal began.

May 12, 1982
Wando Terminal was dedicated and a celebration was held in conjunction with the SC International Trade Conference.

Covid may have been good to the shipping companies but back in September it was hell from the ship crews.

Hopefully, procedures are in place world wide to accommodate the sailors.
