Hello,
So have to replace my cutlass bearing which included sliding shaft down a bit to retrieve broken parts in the shaft tube. Prop came off fine, disconnected the coupling just fine and retrieved the pieces…… success. However decided now that I’m this far along I will change My volvo shaft gland that is now 17 years in service. Having a tough time with removing the coupling off of the shaft. It is a tapered shaft with a key and securing nut on the end. Removed the nut.Put a puller on it…… nothing. Put heat on it while the puller was in place….. nothing. Tapped with hammer……. Nothing. So I ended up spraying PB Blaster inside the end and along the key way on the aft part of coupling, left the puller on and left. Figured I would go back daily, add a little heat, hit it a few times and keep tension on it hoping one day I show up and it released itself. Hopefully by the weekend it’s done!
Any other advice????
thanks
Greg
