Counter Replacement

I own an '86 Cat 27. The galley plastic laminate countertop plywood has dry rotbetween the sink and Teak "wall", whichalso has dry rot. The galley lay is portside 'L'shape model. I want to replace the counter this spring before launching.Has anyone ever done this before? And if so, helpful hints? My concern is the'template' of the countertop shape.I assume I will pretty much destroy it when removing the old. What about soildsurface material (Corian) like they showon the new Cats. There is also a teak edge. I am very handy and want to do thismyself. Would Catalina have the 'template'.Thanks in advance!!

I wanted to do the same thing mainly to get rid of the butcher block 80s look and go with white formica instead. Unfortunately what I found was that the thickness of the counter tops differ greatly from the thickness of kitchen counter tops. I could not find a formica top anywhere that was the right thickness.If you find a solution please let me know at r_clack@hotmail.com.I think the template will be the least of your problems.
