I'm thinking of selling my 10year old 2GM20F with 1300hrs but don't know how much to ask for. Any idea? Planning to get a new 3YM30 for my h326.

Ken:

I would think that $3500 would be a good price point for a low hour engine. I assume that it is in good running order.

3500 sounds high to me. I bought one 2 years ago for 1800. Engine runs good. Was on eBay. Maybe I just got lucky. Just my $0.28 cents worth ( 2 cent worth adjusted for inflation since xxxx)

Steve, Mark, thanks for the guidance. Indeed my engine is in good condition. Ok somehwere between 3500 and 1800 is a good start. Wonder what a brand new 2GM20F would cost? Thanks again.

These engines are no longer made. They have been replaced by the YM series that you are looking at. I have heard prices from $5500 - 7000 for a new 2GM.

Steve, yes indeed the GM series (except for 1GM10) has been replaced by the YM series. I've been on firends' boat with a 3YM20 and 3YM30. WOW! what a beauty the engine is. It's so smooth and quite. Another friend got his 3YM30 for about A$11,000. Ok so the price of the 2GM is about right. Thanks.

A completely rebuilt engine is around $5,000. That includes everything, i.e. tranny, alternator, starter, panel and heat exchanger. As Steve says, the GM series is no longer made and the new ones still hanging around in distributors' warehouses go between 5 & $7,000. So my guess is if you could get between 2500 and 3000 you would be doing good. You probably will need to change the prop and maybe the shaft and coupling to accomodate the new engine, so you could throw that in and get the $3500 you had in mind.

Do not forget that you will need to reconfigure your engine room a little bit for exhaust hose and control cables because the YM series has the heat exchanger and cabless on the port side of the boat, opposite of the GM series which is on starboard side. You are right that the YM is real smooth. Good luck

I would rather have a good low hour (1300) engine than an unknown rebuilt one.

Claude, thanks for the heads up. It didn't occur to me to look at the exhaust and cables.

Agree with you Steve, my point was that if a complete new unit can be found between 5 & $7000, that's the way to go. That being said, I spent 20 years of my career on the parts supplying side of the engine rebuilding business and I would not hesitate one skinny minute to buy a rebuilt from a known & reputable rebuilder. These people guarantee their work and it's often cheaper and a whole lot easier to do a drop-in than to reconfigure everything.
