Cosmetic issue - What caused this?

Ahoy,

I am looking at a boat that has some cosmetic issues on the port side. I can't tell if it is gel coat wear or some kind of poly-coat/restorer that has worn off. Any ideas? Haven't talked to the owner about it. As can be seen it appears whiter in the areas where the fenders have made contact.

Thanks

It looks like the hull was scraped against something and a gel coat fix was attempted.

I've used PolyGlow for years....I probably should compound and wax but I just don't have the time. At the end of each winter parts of my hull look just like your picture. I use the poly prep solution as directed and a scrubby pad and it comes off. Then a few coats of PolyGlow and I'm set to go. I still have some left from last year but when it's done I'm going to try the Zep floor stripper and Zep acrylic floor wax. I've also heard that the Zep is much the same as the PolyGlow.

Realize that the hull of your candidate boat probably needs a good compounding and wax but if you're like me and don't have the time and the 10' test is OK (the boat looks great from 10 feet away) then go for it!
