I have corrosion on the prop shaft between the stuffing box and the transmission. Is this a major concern or something that just needs cleaning?

Almost as bad as "My Little Johnson"

agree with Steve... zincs should solve it.

Shaft Corrosion ....................

....... this is most likely simple atmospheric corrosion (with a lot of salt water flying around) and is doubtful that it is electolytic as would be found underwater. The corrosion products on the shaft should be either red or orange. I have kept this under control by coating the shaft in this area with the heaviest tacky grease I can find. Not a permanent cure and needs periodic regreasing. Hope this helps. Regards, s/v Island Hunter

The shaft

Is the shaft bronze or stainless? Is the boat in fresh or salt water?

Shaft Corrosion

Thanks for the response. The shaft is stainless, the boat is in saltwater, and I have zincs on the shaft. The corrosion is green.
