Previous owner had all kinds of knots in the jiffy reefing line. Question is how to properly route it. This is for 1st reef point; while sail has a 2nd, it was not rigged and since I will be on a lake, I doubt I will need it.

Background:
Boom has 4 padeyes (or whatever they are called) on bottom.
1. About 1/4 of way aft of mast, fixed in position.
2. About halfway, maybe a tad more, aft, fixed.
3. About 3/4 aft, sliding.
4. At aft end of boom, fixed.

Assume 1 is for vang, 2 for sheet, 3 for reef line, and not sure what 4 is used for (maybe to tie boom off to one side when anchored?).

Assume sliding eye is supposed to be under reef cringle.

I am not sure correct way to run line. See photo - I bowlined fixed end to eye, would then run up and through cringle, down to stbd sheave, fwd thru boom to stbd cam cleat, and out. Seems this would put sideways pressure on eye, maybe damaging it or boom track? Another way might be to put eye (using bowline) in fixed end of reef line, run line from top of boom (under sail) down and around boom, through sliding padeye, back up through this eye and hence to cringle. That'd put the upward pressure on the boom.

What is the "right" way to do it?

Thanks!

Wish I would have seen your post a little earlier today, I was working in Milford and would have stopped by!

Cheers,

Thanks for the feedback. I don't recall any diagram of line setup in the manual I got from the PO, just a description of how to perform the reefing operation. I'll recheck.

Chris, the boat is up at Wallenpaupack - I am not (west of Phil). I am up there pretty much on weekends. Where's your boat?

That looks ugly..
Put a small padeye on side of the boom with 2 rivets. run the reef line out of the aft block, through the reef cringle, through the padeye, and tie a stopper knot.

That sliding fitting looks like it's for an extra block for more mainsheet purchase, or maybe to have 2 places to clip the mainsheet to (forward for sailing with a bimini, back when not?)
