Hi, does anyone know exactly what the cored hull material is on a 1992 Beneteau First 265? Is it balsa? I've also heard honeycomb? Online says solid fiberglass which I know is wrong (I drilled for a transducer).

Asking because I'm investigating possible water coming from the core layer of my boat. Thanks!

I will be installing a new transducer on my 1992 45f5 soon, following with interest!

I believe all beneteaus are solid glass hulls, only the cabin top is cored with balsa , and it is thick .
I drilled mine and it was solid glass for transducer. Even the matrix and stringers are solid glass

Great to hear, I would have thought it would be solid below the waterline. I will confirm when I drill a new drain hole!

To be more clear, all Beneteau sailboats feature solid glass hulls, with the exception of
Figaros
First Class raceboats (FC10, FC8, FC7.5 etc)
Some specialized version of modern First boats: First 40 carbon, First 30R, First10R

You might have mistaken strand mat for a core. No expert, but I think to bulk up the thickness of the fiberglass the inner lays are not cloth like fiberglass but more a puffy blanket of fibers as it is cheaper to get a particular thickness. In any case Bene's of that era are solid glass hulls and cored decks. Some years did have osmosis problems ( blistering) although if it hasn't shown up by now it won't or was fixed
