Does anyone have "splicing" directions for removing part of the core on a furling line. Hood wants about 1/3 of the core removed to reduce the bulk of line on the furling drum when the sail is rolled out.

Here's How

It has been a few years, but what I remember is to have a "raw" cut at the beginning if the line. This was for the SL model of reefer and must be the first part of the line to roll onto the drum. (Also, it is NOT a braid that must be done - just to "core" the braided line). Loosen the outer wrapping of the braided line and fish out the core. Pull out what you need while "riding" the braided/webbed outside of the line up the line (Peel it back). Cut the piece of core off and just leave the braided web. Repeat as many times as necessary to acquire the desired length of "cored" line. When complete, seal it with a flame (melt it) so it won't unravel and then tie a "figure 8" knot on the opposite end as a stopper knot. Now you will have a flat piece of braid to put onto the reefer drum. I did this for my reefer and it works fine. The bulk was removed and the line it flat. As I recall, only about the first 15' that wraps around the drum was required to be "cored".
