Planning on my first overnight trip. Where do people normally stow a cooler on a 26S. I'm thinking of setting it on the cabin sole and strapping it to the stairs while I'm under way. Don't see where else to secure it while sailing.

Thanks,
John

I also strap it to the undersides of the stairs with a couple of bungee chords while under way. I have recently switched to a large soft cooler instead of the hard sided cooler, it has limited the amount of sliding around the cooler does--Although most of my trips are day trips, so I am not packing a lot of product.

We kept two coolers on the starboard side of the aft berth area. I build an...

... apparatus that keeps them in place and ....

...also provides a platform for sail storage on top and other storage under the sails.

We now have an.......

..... EdgeStar frig and I modified the cooler locator for it and was still able to keep the storage platform. Now that we have the roller furler and the sailpack we will only keep the pop-top cover and a few other things on the storage top.

The build for the platform is here..............

Good luck and have fun,

Our cooler storage is limited for a weekend and very simple. We have a 48 quart cooler, more upright than horizontal tied behind the ladder. There is plenty of room to raise the lid. I used 3/16 line, ran it over the step support and knotted it so it would stay, then around the back of the cooler and over the other end of the step support and knotted that end. To remove the cooler I just slide this loop over the top and slide the cooler out from behind the steps. Our cooler came from Walmart and I bought a food storage tray there that drops in. It serves us well.:)

I also keep a small cooler behind the steps for daysailing. If overnighting, I put a larger one on the V-berth. The small one aft holds drinks and maybe sandwich meat. -Paul

I installed the same 48 quart Igloo model Beamreach uses into the galley top.

Wow! Lots of interesting ideas. Looks like the best short term choice is using the stairs. I may also look at adding some eye straps to bungee it in on the stbd side of the aft berth similar to where Sumner's are. Thanks to everyone who replied.

Normally I just have a small picnic cooler just across from the head.. for longer trips with the family (where four have to sleep on the boat), I use the setup in the pictures (including the "frankencooler"). After about two days, one of the coolers is used to store trash and dog food. The extra insulation on one cooler keeps ice five days in hot weather.

Yup.. it definitely helps because the shiny cover material was cold on the inner side when I got into the cooler. It doesn't seal the bottom very well which likely is an important area - but the cooler overall worked better than the standard 5 day cooler.

The table top clips to the wall in two places and its all easy to remove. The little cooler I normally use for day sailing is shown in the picture..

The fake plant? ...both the plant and the color scheme/ throw pillow deal simply can not be explained.. they just happened.

Walt, that is without a doubt the best explanation I have ever heard for the unexplainable. -Paul
