Cooler or Oven?

I just got back from an 18 day trip on the boat. I have the original
cooler in the stock location, and find it works more like an oven,
after several hours of motoring. I kept my beer and veggies up forward
in the compartment just aft of the water tank, which seems to be the
coolest storage place on the boat.

I've had the same experience, and found the same solution - a cooler
bungied in place just aft the V berth.
I have plans to insulate the engine compartment and to try and beef up
the insulation in the ice box without tearing it apart but haven't
gotten to it yet- maybe a lack of storage space for cold beer will be a
suitable incentive :)

I use the cooler as storage for all electronic much like a ferreday
box. For cold beer I use one of the new 5-day ice chests that works
well. Will keep ice up to 3 days in the cockpit in the Texas sun.
