so going through boat and noticed a tight fit with a hose and the alternator....... it's actually pressed in tight deflecting hose and doesnt look right to me as I would imagine alt can get quite hot when charging. Looks like I have room and was thinking about a longer belt for alt. Ago give some space. Does this right??

From the appearance of the alternator in relation to the slotted adjustment arm, somewhere in its life it had the wrong belt installed. Find a belt with enough overall length to put the adjustment nearer the middle of that slot when properly tensioned.
Trying to see where the belt is riding in the lower right corner of your second photo. If that is a small idler wheel, the belt may be riding on the wring side of it. I cannot really tell what that is.

Looks like one of the studs for the engine cover? Doug, I had to change my 20 for a 19, as the adjustment was at the limits of its travel. 3YM20.

Yes that is one of the studs for the cover..... they can be removed if it is in the way but I don't think it is.... I am actually keeping the cover off and will remove them (3) as all the cover does is hinder inspection / maintenance. I think if I get a belt just an inch or two longer it will be fine.
