stove for Cat25

I have a dual burner Origo 3000 unit. It uses denatured alcohol, and it is gimbaled. It's gorgeous - stainless steel, easy to clean, easy to operate, easy to light. BUT....... quick, high heat it does not provide ! Nothing boils water slower than an alcohol stove. Propane or kerosene are much quicker due to higher burning temp (less than 2 minutes). If you want to to do stir fry type cooking, or, (because its gimablled) you're out in rougher water while cooking, its great. If you want a fast cup of tea enroute, forget it ! A two burner Coleman propane camp stove actually fits snugly into the stove area on the Cat25. And if you use the small green bottles of propane, you don;t need to worry about blowing up the boat due to a build up in the bilge - there's not enough propane to inflict a blast. Personally - I leave the Origo alcohol unit inside, and supplement it with a Magma gas BBQ outside. When the weather sux, its nice to cook below.

stove top

John is right on. For casual cooking I just removed the non functioning gimbled unit, bought a yellow colored cook top mfgrd. by "American Camper" ( aka China branch) drilled two 2 1/4" holes in the bottom of the stainless box enclosure left in place from the orig stove. This was not easy, the metal door lock drill bit cut the fiberglass below fine but I had to remove the encloure and finish the holes by hand. The two holes align with the two connections for the bottled LP which screw to the underside. This 19" long stove top came with folding legs and top, which I removed.Follow Mfgrs instructions about removal of bottles after use of stove. After in place,I thru bolted the top & dressed it off with brass cap nuts. Acess to the two bottles are from the cabinet door below. You can also strip the top of the old stove and mount a camper cook top to it so it would be gimbled but the gas piping would have to be re done which which was a pain. I gained some pot storge space by lowering the top myway.I may re-attach the pot retaining rail on the front. Also have a small microwave for shore. Good Luck!

Butane stove

Unless you plan to cook Thanksgiving dinner on your boat, I have an inexpensive suggestion. Check out the small butane stoves that use cylinders that look like hair spray bottles. All the Marine stores have them in their catalogs, about $60. Then get you a bbq grill for outside. That was all I used on our old Hunter 37 cutter and we created great meals for ourselves and friends. If you don't go this route, I'd stay away from alcohol stoves. Gloria
