My husband and I just purchased a Beneteau 473 with 3 cabins and 3 heads. We would like to convert one head to storage. Our plan is to remove the head itself and then build shelves. Has anyone done this? Do you have suggestions to maximize utility? Would you care to share pictures?

A Place To Start...

If there are any Hunter 460's near you, they had a choice of workshop, office or stateroom in the third cabin. Just thinking this may give you some ideas. I'm sure the owners would love to have you look. Great idea though. Good luck!

Sounds like a great idea. It seems to me that what you want to put into the new storage place would determine how you lay it out and what you either buy or build in. It'd be a lot different if you wanted to store clothes compared to a pantry compared to boat equipment.

Your boat, your choice. :)

Whatever you do, make sure you can return it to its original state as this may affect your ability to sell in the future.

It seems the boat has a "charter" configuration having a head for each stateroom. Aside from its desirability for chartering the elimination of the third head will not affect its resale value and may enhance it for a private buyer. Look at some of those organizing kits for home closets and see if something like that would serve your needs. A walk-in closet on a boat, awsome.
