Any suggestion on how to run Power cable to electrify Lewmar 44st winch on legend 40.5 built in late 1993. Winch mounted on cabin top next to companion way. Seems to be room below for motor but not to run cable. Plan to go through engine compartment to starter battery at base of steps. Not to house batteries in lazzaret as have no generator.

That's too much load for the typical start battery. The winch should be run off the deep cycle house bank or a separate battery. Cable can be run directly down to the engine compartment to the aft battery under the sole plates in the aft cabin.

I *think* the power cable runs down in the same space between the inner head panel and companionway panel that the fuel shut off does. The relay is on the forward side of the starboard cockpit locker. As Don noted, the wire sizing is critical and the run should be aft to the house batteries (via the 3 way switch).
