I recently purchased a 1975, 25' trailersailer that has wire, external halyards. I am considering changing from wire to rope and going down inside the mast instead of down the outside. Is this a good idea? Bad idea? Any tips to get the job done.

Don't know how you can do this?

David: I do not know how you can do this? You will need to change the mast head and you would also need exit sheaves on the mast. This will probably cost what you paid for the boat. Changing to all rope is not a big deal, just order new sheaves for the mast head and you should be home free.

Easy for me.

On the boat that I converted there were two narrow sheaves on each side ot the mast head to cary both cables across and down the other side. I replaced them with one wide sheeve on each side and cut rectangular holes above my mast mounted halyard winches. I then installed exit boxes that had two sheaves each. I used aluminum pop rivets to attach the exit boxes. This was one of the best things I ever did to the boat. Good luck.
