Are their changes that must be made to take a fresh water Yanmar into a salt water environment? What are they and how hard/ expensive?

If you mean a raw water cooled engine, 3GMD has been in salt water all it's life and it is doing fine. It would be helpful if you gave more information on your setup.

Short answer..No. Other than regular maintenance, the Yanmar in your 28.5 should be good to go. I'm pretty sure there is no engine zinc on a fwc 2GM Yanmar which unless it's been replaced, should be what's in that boat.

Ah, I see the question. Dr. H. has another post, but this one is regarding moving to a salt water environment from fresh water.

Dr. H.: we have a situation where we are berthed in fresh water and travel back and forth to a salt water environment. There is nothing different other than the fact that you should have the bottom cleaned every 6-8 weeks (depending on the conditions) and need to keep an eye on the Zinc's so you do not have corrosion issues with the prop, shaft & strut.
