I'm finally going to tackle the conversion of one of the boxes in my C-36 to use the Adler/Barbour large cold machine that's been sitting in my office for 4 months. My biggest concern is the insulation type and thickness. As we've all found out - Catalina didn't insulate these worth a hoot and ice melts instantly so...what do you folks have to suggest for insulation?4" in the box next to the sink, which is most convenient in terms of fitting insulation and piping the refrigeration, will reduce it to an itty bitty box. Doing the existing ice box will be much more difficult to fit and pipe. The vaccum panels are terribly expensive. There is a fellow in Florida that says he has a vaccum panel substitute for 1/3 the price. Does the refrigeration unit run too much with less insulation? We are in the SF Bay Area so it's not a tropical heat load. Has anyone done a simpler installation and simple door seals with reasonable results? I'd sure appreciate any advice or suggestions before starting this project. Thanks all!
