The starting procedure depends on the make & model for the engine. Is it an Atomic 4 gas model or a diesel? If you want a specific answer then giving specific info will help. There is a manufactures plate on the top / front of the engine if it is a Universal Diesel. Atomic gas engines always have 4 spark plugs & wires attached. Generally you should run the blower fan motor for several minutes before start up to remove any fuel fumes to reduce chance of fire hazards (Left toggle switch on diesle panel). Always check to make sure that your water inlet seacock valve is open before cranking the engine, or you'll burn up the impeller & over heat the engine. Best to check the oil & trans fluid levels before starting. Universal Diesels all have glow plugs to ease starting in cold weather. Hold the glow plug lever switch on for approximately 30 seconds will usually suffice (right toggle on 5411). Check that trans is in neutral before cranking, throttle set at no more than 1/4. Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds or overheating the starter & flooding the exhaust with water from the impeller may result. The impeller always sends water through the block whenever the engine is cranking & can fill the cylinders with sea water if you're not careful about over cranking. When she fires up verify that cooling water is exiting through the raw water exhaust discharge point at the stern transom. If you don't see water coming out within 10 seconds or so than check the water inlet flow, as U may have a blockage or shut valve. Good luck, & the Cat 30 website has manuals for most of all the C 30 engines available.
