I own a 1998 h310 and have a question about the engine bed. Several of the lag bolts are stripped, 2 as delivered and at least one more from retightening after an alignment. I am having a hard time maintaining an alignment and want to fix the problem. I would like to convert from lag bolts to hex bolts with nuts and washers or a backing plate.Has anyone done this before and can offer any advise? I would need to cut an access hole at each bolt to get to the underside of the bed stringer. What is the construction of the stringer? How far below the surface of the engine bed does the wood core extend? I would hate to cut the hole and find solid wood.Greg at Hunter recommends filling the stripped holes with epoxy, redrilling and using the next larger size lag bolt. I am just not comfortable with lags because they tend to loosen with time and retightening is what got me to where I am now.
