Hunter 216 Lake Mendota
We are thinking about buying a Hunter 216. This model is made of plastic. We have heard that these plastic boats have had problems with developing cracks in the hulls, usually in the cold weather. We live in the Midwest, so our boat would be subject to temperature extremes.
We would appreciate any information/feedback you have about this sitatuion.

some of the plastic hulls did crack, there's some thought that leaving them uncovered in the snow may contribute to the issue. there is a repair procedure...
A lot of the boats haven't had the issue. My 2006 is crack free-so inspect the boat carefully before you buy, and if there are cracks and you like the boat, negotiate.

Thomas,

It was true some did crack but repairable. If you notice any and would like for me to comment, take some photos and send.

What many failed to notice, Hunter built the boats with what they believed to be good product or raw materials. IF the formulation was ever changed by the manufactuerer of the ABS plastics, then that was the major issue. However, most were repairable and the biggest think is to keep the boats covered or stored inside over the winter.

Covered or uncovered, my 216 has cracked. The good news? Really easy to repair, and worth the trouble.
