Considering a Catalina 18

I need advice concerning Catalina 18's. All the dealers in this part of the country deal primarily with the "big" boats and some don't even know whats in the sales brochure for the Catalina 18. Consequently they can't direct me to owners for discussion. Any owner feedback concerning sailing performance, trailer-ability, ease of setup, will be appreciated. I have sailed Lasers, Force 5's, Zuma's and a Tanzer 16 which is a swing centerboard but would like a keel boat with ability to sail all day and possibly overnight. I am new to this site and may have also inadvertently posted a similar message on a "response" forum. I can be E-mailed at CDPGRPDLB@AOL.com.

Erik,

Catalina Capri 18

Did you look at the previous posts (below) regarding the C-18? I'm also sending you a detailed e-mail re. the C-18. Apparently, Catalina is now calling the Capri 18 the Catalina 18. I actually like the Cat name better, as Capri is also a model of stinkpot.

Cat 18 information

Have you tried Sailboats of Oregon in Portland? They have a shipment of 18s coming in soon, and I'm going down to take a look at 'em. I've had a 22 before (bought from Admiralty), and liked it, but too much to trailer for me. I'm going to purchase if the mast looks reasonable to raise. I'm dealing with David. Glen, I think, is the owner. Had no problem with Admiralty in Seattle/Tacoma, but my assessment the same as yours: they want to sell big boats, and don't want to bother with little ones. The Portland people, however, were bringing in three on spec this spring, so their market is smaller. Good Luck. (David's e-mail: DRsailing@aol.com)
