I have been wing on wing sailing for the past couple of years on smaller boats and only recently have i purchased a small crusider, my H22. I've wing on wing sailed by myself with out problems, but Spinnakers are looking more apealing everyday. My question is has anyone ditched using their whisker pole in favor of a spinnaker pole? What are the pros and cons of the 2?

Here's a bowsprit...

Here’s an easy-to-make bowsprit, seats in the anchor locker. This will throw the spin ahead of the main, less blanketing. Tack line and 2 sheets permanently deployed for quick setup. (Note that the link here has 2 pages of pix and directions.)

Spinnaker?

A spinnaker works over a wider range and is handier than wing and wing. A good compromise, if simplicity is important, is a genniker, or single luff spinnaker. Tacks down on the centerline and no hanks. Pole it out to leeward. I switched to one a few years ago, and wish I had done so long before that.
