All, Has anyone connected an eTrex handhled GPS to the Simrad WP30? The wiring instructions don't seem to match up. On the eTrex, you have a ground lead, a data in and a data out. On the simrad WP30 side you have power, ground, compass in / out. data and data common. I can't seem to figure out how they should be connected together... nor an easy test to see if they are functioning together. Thanks, Darren

Check with Simrad?

I have an Etrex also but am still using my 12XL with my WP30. So I would be interested to hear what they say. The Simrad website(Related Link) makes it sound so simple.

No docs availabel online at simradusa...

But, I was able to find a paragraph in the online manual at the parent simrad.com site that reads as follows: "It should be noted that some manufacturers equipment does not have a dedicated Common connection. In this case, the DATA connection will usually be labelled NMEA OUT, and the NMEA Common connection on the Wheelpilot (Blue) should be connected directly to 0v (Black). If in any doubt, refer to the manufacturer, or Simrads Product Support department for advice." So, it looks like communication between etrex and autopilot is one way with no data going back in to the handheld gps via "data in". Guess I will try it out this weekend... but will still try to verify directly with simrad before hand.

Garmin too?

Maybe a cross-check with Garmin is in order Darren. I have never tried their technical service but they seem like a good company. Be sure to report back.
