I have purchased a relay switch for my starter switch. After speaking with a Yanmar technician, he identified my starter problem as poor wiring. This relay switch has five wires - a smaller gauge black and white wire, a large gauge red, blue, and yellow wire. Does anyone know which of these wires should be connected to the wires leading from my starter switch to my solenoid?

Five wires?

Some years ago I posted a "relay" wiring diagram(Related Link). But my solenoid came with four posts and no wires. I can only assume that the fifth wire is a ground for the relay can. Is there a website with a picture or diagram of the solenoid that you purchased? Was there not a wiring diagram with the solenoid?

Try an ohm meter

on the larger leads. You probably have a SPDT relay. Meaning one lead is common, another is NO (normally open), and one lead is NC( Normally closed). For your purpose you'll want the Common and NO leads. Dwain
