confused?

i am really confused as to how one would completely empty bilge water. there was a study done at the university of rhode island stating that even bilge water in the hull can contribute to delamination or other saturation problems. i'm worried because i've pumped, by hand pump(cant find an electric one tho there is a switch for one), and there always remains a little water about an inch or two from the top of the hole in the sole or deck. there appears to be marble or some kind of ballast in there preventing me from putting my pump tube all the way to the bottom so i can get the bilge water completely out. any comments or direction as to how to rid all water from the hull will be appreciated. steve

*yks I am in the middle of fixing my hull from water in the bilge freezing and nice things like that - this is quite an extensive fix up - the keel is creaping into the hull from the weight of the boat-Just be sure that if it does freeze your hull is dry - you may not want to make a bigger hole in the sole but it is better than taking the whole sole out and trying to fix the hull/keel connection!!! The boat that I have is a 1974 oday 22 and I think it took many years of freeze thaw to make this happen -Algae Algae

after you get most of the water out with a pump, use your thanksgiving turkey baster.

use a indoor/outdoor shop vac to get last of water out. i also use a baster to remove water from tight spaces.
