I have a 1996 Hunter 336. I have a fair amount of condensation that runs down the hull. I have two goldenrods and one circular dehumidifyers running while at the dock. I am a liveaboard and have to seal anything I store under the seats and above the refrigerator. The condensation is enough to trigger my bilge pump at least once a day. Any similar problems or ideas?

A portable A/C unit with a dehumidifier.

You can purchase a 120V 7000 btu poertable air conditioner unit for $299 at Home Depot. Install a drain hose down to the bilge and set the control at a few degrees below ambient. It will keep the cabin cool and dry. A regular dehumifier sells for about $120 but elevates the temperature to about 90 degrees at 50% humidity. it is dry but unconfortably hot. Depending on your temperatures it may be a plus. Other than that ventilation and air circulation is the best defense against high humidity and condensation.

Similar probelm, different area

I have a similar problem aboard my H28. the water in Maine is very cold all year long. During the warmer summers when the humidity is a little higher, when the air comes in contact with the walls (actually the hull) of the storage compartments under the cabin seats, I get condensation. Usually enough to completely saturate a 4-5 paper towels per compartment each week. I have not solved the problem, but I now keep all the items in a plastic storage bins with a cover. You may want to try insulating the parts that get condensation? Good luck -- post your solution if you find one.

I think I like the idea of ventilating the area. I will get my drill charged and start punching holes. Thanks, Art
