Trying to service Adler-Barbour unit in boondocks--no info or dealer in sight.Model No. SCM-10, S/N 50760, R-12,7.5A,12V. Compressor is Danfoss D125A-3012-41BFF-4110-12A7. Would like to prove if compressor is bad by bypassing controls/board and supplying straight 12V. Can anyone identify exactly what each of the 4 pins on the compressor are? Thanks.

12 Volt Compressor

Ron, I don't know much about a 12 volt compressor but I did some reading and I found a couple of areas where it said not to appy 12 volts. If you have a start winding and start relay you will never be able to duplicate it directly. Usually, you can check all the terminals, with the power off and the leads disconnected, to ground (the casing of the compressor or the copper lines). Use an Ohmeter with 100k ohms for a descent check. Any reading to ground indicates a dead short. If you find out which terminals are which, you should read less resistance between the common and 2 of them , and more resistance between the common and 3rd lead(this will be your run winding. The other 2 are start windings, I believe). If you have no short to ground and you have continuity, your compressor should be okay. There is one more test for a locked rotor. It is usually diagnosed with an amp meter. The reading of the amps is compared with the lock rotor amps (LRA) rating for the compressor. Chances are that you are going to need a tech person. I put a link below for an example of a manufacturer's ratings for checking their compressor. good luck, Mike D

COMPRESSOR PIN CHECK

DO NOT PUT 12V TO THE COMPRESSOR. CERTAIN CASES OF SYSTEM FAILURE OR REPEATED ELECTRONIC MODULE FAILURES CAN BE TRACED DIRECTLY TO SHORTED OR OPEN COIL WINDINGS INSIDE THE COMPRESSOR THIS OUTLINES A SIMPLE FIELD PROCEDURE FOR MEASURING RESISTANCE. *** YOU MUST USE A HIGH QUALITY DIGITAL OHMETER CAPABLE OF READING TO 0.1 OHM.**** A SHORTED COIL WILL HAVE MARKEDLY LOWER THAN NORMAL RESISTANCE. AN OPEN COIL WILL HAVE INFINITE RESISTANCE. IF A SHORTED OR OPEN WINDING IS DETECED DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START THE COMPRESSOR BY INSTALLING A KNOWN GOOD MODULE. THE INTERNAL COMPRESSOR FAULT CAN CAUSE INSTANTANEOUS FAILURE OF THE POWER TRANSISTORS IN THE GOOD MODULE. IF A COMPRESSOR IS SUSPECT, IT SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE FACTORY ALONG WITH THE MODULE THAT HAS FAILED WHEN CONNECTED TO IT. THE PINS ON THE COMPRESSOR ARE IN A DIMOND PATTERN BOTTOM PIN IS COMMON = HOME PLATE HOME PLATE TO 1ST SHOULD OHM @ .2-.4 HOME PLATE TO 3RD SHOULD OHM TO .2-.4 HOME PLATE TO 2ND SHOULD 2.5-4.5 AT 78'F WITH 12V

Testing Compressor

Mike does not understand brushless DC motors follow the instructions of Adler Barbour.

read it

Richard You are right that I don't understand DC Motors. Although, if you read my posting it says the same thing that A.B. said withour the readings. As your name indicates, Mike D
