Hunter 25.5 Monroe Harbor
We just removed the bulkheads from our 1984 Hunter 25.5 due to severe rot caused by water water penetration thru the chainplates. We did a full inspection of the compression post and have decided it needs to be replaced. There is rot at the bottom and since we have everything out, we have decided to replace this as well. Can anyone tell me if it is ok to just use, solid, hardwood piece of wood for this such as oak, wallnut, etc.? Any recommendations for a specific wood to use? We'll need to properly match it up color wise but my main concern for now is the type of wood to source and use. Attached are some photos. Unfortunately I don't have any close ups at this time.

Any light you can shed is very appreciated. Many thanks.

Joe
