I noticed the rusting of the compression post as noted in archives. My fix is going to be to remove the rust, then build a dam around it and pour instant set polyurethane around the post. ISP flows like water and sets up like a rock in about a minute - compression is over 13000 lb. I plan to take it about 1/2 way up the post. Can anyone think of a reason not to try this?

Can't think of one, but

How did it work out? I am faced with the same problem on a 1981 30' that we are dealing on. I'm curious how the fix worked out. As this showed up on the survey, we are able to have it repaired by a shipwright, at the sellers expense. The shipwright has recommended removal of the old support and replacement with a support that is encased in FRP. Sounds great to me since i'm not paying, but i'm curious as to how your fix worked out.
