I'm always looking for improvements for my boat. I recently purchased a VHF radio holder from Phil, I was tired of having my hand held VHF bounce on the floor after trying to balence it in the cup holder. Now I am wondering what people use to keep their little air horns handy. You know, the little cans of compressed air with the horn screwed in on top. How do you keep it handy so when the unexpected happens it at your finger tips and not buried in the cubby hole? Thanks for any ideas, Jack

air horns

I keep my air horn in a mounted slot in my cockpit. And I use a mouth blown unit, it's louder and never runs out of air. Novelman

Mug holder

You know, one of those teak jobs that attached to the binnacle guard. The can fits right into the mug slot.

I have a mouth blown horn that I bought thirty

years ago to call the kids in from their play. The kids have grown and I have a boat so now it is kept on the companion door in easy reach.

All of your emergency equipment should be

in the cockpit - or most of it anyway. Flares, life-vests (at least the number you usually need), emergency tiller, horn, etc. When you need it you need it now. Was on a boat once when the steering went out. Took 15 minutes of flogging around trying to get sails down to find the emergency tiller.... not good. Get the mouth-blown variety or get one with a refillable can. They don't last long. The mouth blown ones are loud.

Not near the compass

Those compressed air horns will affect your compass, so don't mount it on the pedestal.
