Saturn

For me it is the Saturn Bulkhead compass. Very large numerals for us folks that have to wear glasses and they are very stable. Price is not so bad either. :) Dave LaPere

My Choice

Because I wanted to mount my compass in the bulkhead but didn't want to give up one of the most comfortable spots in the boat, I chose a Ritchie Explorer Series, V-57 (available from both West Marine and Boaters World). It is only about 3" around and doesn't take up a lot of space, yet I can still read the numbers from the back of the cockpit. The only drawback is that it is only marked with numbers every 30 degrees. That is close enough however for most of our inland cruising. You may want to take a look at from 10' away before you buy it to make sure you can see it well enough to suit your needs. Another plus - it was less than $30.00

Make sure

that you use a cover, no matter what brand you buy. I made the mistake of not using one on the 22 that I bought a few years ago, and had to have the lens replaced (due to crazing) after about three seasons in the sun. By the way, I had a Ritchie, and found the service excellent and reasonable.
