My hunter340 made in 2000 has a compass which needs oil added to it. Has anyone done? Any tips or tricks?

Compass lost oil over Winter

My 340 2001 Hunter compass had a small bubble at the end of last season but its now grown considerable. I'm also interested in how others have replaced the oil and what type of oil they used.

chill the fluid

I replaced a cracked dome and o-rings on my Ritchie a couple of years ago ... one trick is to put the fluid in the freezer overnight ....keep it chilled until ready for use...

mine was crazed and very low on fluid (Ritchie Navagator) and I called Ritchie and they said '"send it in" and it came back brand new compliments of Ritchie. I was impressed with their customer service to say the least. While I'm at it, the same thing happened with my no longer working depth-finder...Returned brand new by the manufacturer, Ritchie Pat

If it is a Danforth, I used Isopar compass oil from here

There is a bleed screw on the underside of the compass where you can bleed and fill. It was a very pleasing cheap fix.

Do it now! I always thought it was just a nuisance until trying to sail at night in 35 knot winds and I couldn't read my heading!!
