Compass placement and deviations

I have a compass (bulkhead) and planned to put it behind the line bag, starboard. The I was looking at how close the stainless hardware was all around that area and thought I probably would have some deviation issues???

My next thought is to place a board in the lower quarter to third of the hatch and mount it there. The stainless trim at the bottom of the hatch wouldn't be too hard to replace with some alloy? Still not sure of the stainless hatch holder / covers and how much influence they might have.

Your thoughts??

I think, that some stainless is magnetic, and another is not. If the stainless is not magnetic, it will not affect the compass ....

Shipmates,
I know my mk II has nonmagnetic hatch hardware; I tried magnetically attaching a clock w/o success.
I know next to nothing about compass deviations.

Looks like 316 is non-magnetic. Best to check with a magnet I guess.
