Compass on the pedestal

Hi all, a ways back I botched up my compass trying to get into the pedestal to route a wire for my autopilot. I unscrewed the wrong screws and let a bubble into into the compass. Then I proceeded to make it worse and worse until I just gave up on it altogether. So now it's in pieces and whatever the liquid was that was in there is all gone. Does anybody know where one takes this sort of thing to be re-done, calibrated and sealed properly? Fair winds. Josh

Depends

On who manufactured it. If it's a RITCHIE you can ship it directly to them and they will fix it for you.

inlet with scew and seal on side

You can buy the mineral oil at WM. I used an injector for cooking to squirt the oil in the inlet. You'll have to keep the inlet always on top to fill it to capacity and eliminate all air. you need to be dilegent about this. it took me a few times after I wasted half the oil.

Get a new one.

When we got Euphoria (82 37-C) three years ago, the compass (probably original) was so yellowed that the bubble didn't make that much difference. I found a real nice brand-new Ritchie on eBay for about 40 bucks including shipping.

Compass Fill

Josh.............. Had the same problem trying to get to the tranny shifters (see previous thread). I took it to: Safe Navigation 4th & Pacific Avenues Long Beach, CA They filled it with new oil for $15.00, Cash & Carry. If you need a clearer address, I'll get it for you. PS: How are those SS ports? Hope you enjoy them as much as we do....but then, we live with them 365 days a year. Good Luck, Dave
