My compass is getting a little low on fluid and I was wondering what to recharge it with. It is a plastimo compass made in France. I notice there is a port at the top for a syringe to refill it. Anyone with experience in this? Is there any alternative fluid that is readily available? Such as a natural oil. I'd like to make this compass last a while as it seems in good shape otherwise. Thanks in advance.

Lite mineral oil

I refilled mine using a "lite" mineral oil two years ago. It's still working well. EG Sea Raven

I used Babyoil

I used baby oil to refill mine, it doesn't freeze and dampens the card also.

I'd send it to a pro

When was the last time it was checked? I beleive it is mineral oil, but would probably be worth having a pro replace the oil and swing (adjust)it while he has it.

I have a Plastimo that leaked at the fill. I found the fill on the side of the compass. It has a brass screw to seal it and some dried black sealant around the screw. I cleaned off the sealant, filled the compass with compass oil I got from West Marine and sealed the screw with a small O-ring.
