I need a compass to mount in cockpit at companion way entrance. Most that I test at marine stores "stick" when heeled. (Which is how you tend to be when sailing.) They don't keep a true bearing of direction. Any suggestions of a good compass that works when heeled?

Plastimo Mini Contest !

I mounted a Plastimo Mini Contest#17306 on the starboard side of the cabin entrance. Works GREAT for headings and heeling reading. Has 12v light also. Will need backing plate (1/2" marine plywood or plastic) for thin hull application. West Marine#305617-page926. good luck dan

Compass quality.

The more expensive you go, the fewer hassles you will encounter, especially with things like German cars and sailboat compasses. Personally I would not have anything less than a Rule/Aqua Meter or Ritchie compass on even a small boat like a Venture. They can be had for as little as 60 bucks. The cheap motorboat and bass-boat stuff is not even worth looking at. D*mn the price and get the quality you deserve. JC
