I noticed there is a compartment under the bow berth that has multiple screws holding it down and a seal of some kind. Why was it done this way versus just having a board you can lift out? Probably a dumb question .

My Hunter 280 had a water tank in the bow (plastic tank), and there was a plywood cover over that to form the V berth bed platform. It probably adds more strength and rigidity than a “loose” cover.

Do you have a water tank in the bow?

I havent removed the cover yet. I have been looking for the transducer for the depth finder. I assume the transducer is located in the bow as I cannot find it anywhere else.

You should find the transducer in a small compartment just above the end of the flooring forward. Mine is accessed by a removable cover. I think you could also access it from above. There is a panel just inside the sliding doors just forward of the galley table.

Loose objects on a sailboat easily become projectiles on a day of salty sailing.

Ah. I will check that area out a little closer then. Thank you.

This thing has about 30 screws holding it down but point taken. Maybe I should call Geraldo to do a reveal?

No luck in the compartment just forward of the flooring. Has to be in the big space under the bow berth.

Where are your water and waste tanks? Is this cover fiberglass? I know nothing about the 285, so this is probably wildly off, but my ‘82 H30 has tabbed in fiberglass tanks with screwed down and sealed fiberglass lids.

I have not seen any tanks other than a small 10 gallon? One in the stern.

Fuel, water or waste? Where are the other two? I thought the fiberglass water and waste tanks were used by Hunter only a few years during the 70’s-80’s Cherubini period, but I don’t know. Your description of the screwed down lid sounds like my waste and water tanks. What is the material of the lid? If it’s wood, that’s not a tank lid. My fuel tank is below the cockpit and it’s aluminum.

My fuel tank is in the starboard stern compartment alongnwithbthe small metal tank I noticed. The lid on the bow compartment looks to be fiberglass. I assume that where the water tank is as there is a water port in the bows anchor compartment.

If you haven't already figured it out it is in fact the water tank under the V berth.
