Companionway slides

I am currently restoring a 1983 MacGregor 25. The wooden slides for the top hatch and companionway need to be replaced. I would welcome any thoughts on wood versus plastic/vinyl. Where to purchase these items or on the best way to build them. I realize this is a very open ended way of asking this question, but I am looking for my best options.
Thanks - Brent

I have the Idasailor rails, they wont cut you and they are much better to kick with bare feet.

I used plastic wood decking from my local DIY store. You can get it in different colors and no up keep. Regular wood working tools and skills. Cost was about $20 for enough to do top and companionway.

While I was lucky and got some teak for my hatch slides, they are quite easy to make. While a dado blade or router makes the job easier, you can cut the rabbits that overlap on the slides of a the hatch on a table saw. You can make the required cuts in less than an half an hours. A little longer if you measure twice cut once. Several time that if you cut once measure twice.

Speaking of Teak,,, I had heard that if you go to a Kabota tractor dealer, the crates that the tractors are shipped in are Teak and they give them away. Worth a try for some free boat parts.

Bandit: The slides are nice looking. Did you make the grab rails too? I like the shiny finish. How did you achieve that.

Yes, all were made and finished the same way.

I like the fake wood because it is full size, when they state that it is 1x4 that is what it is. I think they call it 5/4 If you look for real wood.

All sanded with 600 and then min-wax red mohagoney sealer-stain and the top coat is spar varnish.

Hint: Sand off fake grain before doing any work, it's way easier with a belt sander on the plank then holding each piece and doing with a jitterbug.

Oh that picture--

Not my boat, Just a reminder to keep the boat tied to the trailer at all times. I don't rembember the entire story but the ramp was from hell.

The good news was the boat was just scrached up a bit after a long slide as I recall (you might be able to Bing it.)

The gages from left to right---
Depth meter--Keel drags at 5 feet.
Knot and Log meter--Have seen 6 knots
Aparent wind direction--sender broken while being moved in a storage yard with mast down, now just use a windex.
