My "87 H34 Companionway hatch cover does not completely cover the top wood slat in the two front corners. Seems to be a half inch gap which lets water in to damage the flooring in the galley. Is this standard poor design? How to fix?

Replaced boards

Water was seeping through the multiple boards that secure the companionway, so we took all to a glass dealer and had a single piece of lexan(sp) made. I have not had any water seepage yet this winter, however the winter has been a mild one! Makes it a much easier process to remove a single board when it rains.

Nick, first a question, does your slider have the notches on the aft corners, mine does and no leaks, another question, are your drains under the teak step and thru the aluminum hatch boart track clear. When I bought my boat, there was water as you described it on the floor and on the port side teak plywood bulkhead above the engine box. I cleaned mine and the problem stopped. I also wondered after I bought the boat if it hadn't been stored improperly at Tidewater (nahhh that would never happen). Gene
