My 83 Oday 28 has 2 1/2 inch thick companionway hatches that are hazed and old. I was thinking of installing hinged type doors but decided to just maybe replace the two with newer plastic ones. Anybody use Lexan for these?

I have the measurements and was wondering if anybody knew where to get a sheet to get custom cut.

Don't use lexan on the hatches as the sun will break down the polycarbonate over time. The accepted material for that is acrylic. Also, it's cheaper and can be had in various tints.

Plexiglass is it

I replaced the "window" in the forward hatch of my 28' with a piece of Plexiglas from a local plastic house. He sold me a remnant about twice the size for $3. He said there would be no benefit to the use of polycarbonate unless I needed the bullet proof characteristics. He said that the original was definitely Plexiglas as well.

This piece was much thinner (.25") than the .5"-.75" that the companionway pieces are but I think the idea still works.

The stuff cut nicely with my chop saw and I sanded the bevel and curved side with a palm/butterfly sander. He recommended I use a router but I don’t have the right stuff for that.
