Or try nylon sheet stock

You can buy 3/4" nylon or poly propyline plastic sheet stock in white or almound color. It will match the color of the boat, very easy to machine, easy to bond, cost less then wood and there is no maintance. Steve.

clam cleats

A suggestion for keeping your hatchboards in with the hatch open: put a small clam cleat on the port and starboard inside and outside retaining rails. Put however many of your hatchboards you want in place. For example, I have three. The upper and lower are teak, and the middle one is lexan. After putting your hatchboards in, simply run a piece of line from each of the inside clams up over the top of the boards down to the outside clams and voila! Secure hatchboards.
