sunbrella fabric

i have never used the drop boards on my catalina 380. here in houston, we use companionway covers. they snap on to the hood that covers the sliding hatch. they can be rolled up or just thrown back when entering or leaving the cabin. they have a rolled and pleated construction, so they are rigid enough to hold their shape. they are fairly water repellent because they are made from the same material as a bimini. they also have excellent thermal properties to hold in heat and cooling. i don't have a picture of them, but you will see them on a lot of live aboard boats.

Rick, we used the Sunbrella fabric for our ...

companionway cover while on the hook or at the dock. No more tripping and it makes a pretty good weather seal. Sew in a clear plastic window and a strip of metal weight in a pocket across the bottom edge to help keep it in place when the wind picks up. Terry

check out magazine Good Old Boat

jan/feg issue this year has an article about what another gentleman did with his companion way. In a nutshell it folds down, providing another step or a seat. Looks simple enough if you have the tools to make it.. which doesnt look too hard to do..
