companionway cover sticking

Now that We've zeroed in on the 26 footer (thanks again to those who've offered purchasing advice), I've noticed a tendency for the companionway cover to stick on some of the boats I'm considering. It seems to be mostly at the beginning and the end of the plexiglas panel's travel. Is this a common problem, and is it straightforward to remedy? I've read elsewhere on these forums about reinforcing the fiberglas panel with SS angle iron, but I detected no noticeable sag on the ones I looked at, so I'm not sure this was the cause. (I'm also not sure where the angle iron would go--there doesn't appear to be room for anything substantial between the panels.) I don't want to rule out any boats if there is a simple fix, but I'd like to have some idea of what others have done to remedy this problem.

Check Archives

Check recent postings and also the achives. A lot has been written about this problem. There are numerous ways to fix the problem - I sanded down the bottom, back edge if the fiberglass cover and most of the problem went away. Depends where it's sticking. Not a reason to reject the boat, but it is a pain at times.

Tom, I went completely thru my hatch on my 26

this winter and posted the procedure under small boats, namely under the 26 section. Crazy Dave has also posted his method and I wish I had seen his first. Both work but I think his is easier. Look these up using the names of the person to get to them faster. Good luck, Ray

Check bumpers

The rubber bumpers on the bottom of the wooden slide rails which are attached to the fiberglass portion of the hatch are usually the main problem. I wrote an article on either 5/16 or 5/19 which addressed this issue and gave a precise fix. Good luck, the H26 is a great boat.
