Learned a little lesson this week on repairing the surface of the laminated Companionway Boards.....Don't use a sander!! The teak laminate isn't very thick. And if they are covered with Urethane or Varnish it soaks into the full thickness of the outer teak. Sanding doesn't do any good. I went right thru the thickness of the teak to the next layer. Oops! Next night was planned to do the cabin floorboards. Used a paint/varnish remover. Much better!! These boards are a laminate too. Used the remover twice on each board, cleaned them up nice. Just a light touch of the sander and they look good. Will probably have to paint the companionway boards white. Not being able to get all the old varnish out of the laminate makes them look really aged.
