Has anyone built their own companion way screens for a Hunter 356. If so would you send some info, including pictures and specs. Thanks!

First- they are available from this site in the company store. I have purchased two hatch screens which are great. For the companway, I took the barge boards and traced onto 3/8 plywood. Cut with saber saw to outline of barge boards. I then re-traced the pattern two inches inside the outside marker. I then cut this with a saber saw. Sanded the outside and inside edge, trial fitted. I needed to rout the inside edge down a bit to make fit in the slot. I then sanded and stained the frame. Coated with a couple of coats of spar varnish. Went to Ace Hardware and purchased a make-it-yourself screen kit for $10.00 +/-. This is for house windows. This was white aluminum. Cut and screwed (with stainless screws) the track to the inside of the frame. Placed the screen over the track and inserted the vinyl tube. Cut off excess screen with utility knife. Done. Nice winter project Good Luck Ian

We inherited a clever companionway screen design from the previous owner of our H30. The screen consists of two wooden pieces with a loose screen stretched between them. The upper piece of wood, is crafted to just fit snuggly in the side tracks but also to form a tight fit against the sliding companionway hatch (a little foam gastket helps). The lower piece fits snuggly at the bottom of the tracks. There is a generous piece of plastic insect screen stretched between these upper and lower wooden supports. The screen is much wider than the companionway, so that the excess screen can be "stuffed" into the side tracks to seal the openning. On windy days a small length of foam or tubing helps to keep the sides of the screen in place. When not in use, the whole thing just rolls up and is easy to store. A little varnsh gives it a nice look.
